Richard Ruggieri, Brandon's Lawyer

Richard R. Ruggieri has worked as a civil tort litigator since graduating from the University of California Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law in 1979. After years of defending corporations and insurance companies, in firms of as many as 300 attorneys, he entered solo litigation practice in 1999, in San Rafael, California.

Effective January 1, 2001, Ruggieri closed out his existing practice, stopped taking new cases, and devoted himself full time to Brandon's case. Brandon had been living in poverty, without adequate medical care, and unable to find an attorney willing to take on his case, since 1994. Ruggieri is still working full time on Brandon's case, both on appeal in the California courts, and in the Florida Bankruptcy proceedings.

Brandon's unanimous verdict marked the first victory ever against the gun industry - holding gun manufacturers to the same design safety standards as other consumer products.
